Today is a day that will change your characters life forever. What course of events occurs? How does your character react? Write a scene from this day.
I’m so exhausted from collapsing this weekend and pretending to play like I wanted to get better for nurses and other stupid people who have no meaning in my life. Instead of drawing, I go straight to my hallway behind the auditorium and lay down on the hard ground that passes for carpet and close my eyes, determined to sleep.
As soon as my mind is floating in between consciousness and unconscious, the doorway opens and slams into the brick wall. I don’t open my eyes because they feel like their glued shut.
“Is there a class that uses this hall during this hour?” A girls voice.
“No,” I mumble.
“Great.” I hear her let the door close as she sits on the ground on the opposite side of the hallway.
Shit. I don’t want someone sharing the hall with me. No one else uses this hall while I’m here to why the hell is she staying? She’s either not got a good look at me to know I’m someone to avoid or she’s new to school. If she’s new, I certainly don’t want her thinking that I’m going to be friendly and cool with her being here.
“I’m Kaelee Maverick.” She’s unzipping a bag and pulling stuff out of it.
I sit up and squint over at her. She looks familiar. That red hair to her shoulders and impish smile. I sigh and sit against the wall, pulling my small sketch book from my back pocket. “Ashton.”
She nods as if that’s all the information she needs. She unwinds a set of headphones from around a large device and sticks one earbud into her ear before looking at me. “Don’t worry, you can just pretend I’m not here. It’ll be better for both of us.”
